Camp Happy Days offers respite from a child’s day-to-day worries of cancer. Each free program is designed to help improve the emotional, physical, and psychological health of children and families affected by pediatric cancer. Camp Happy Days believes every child battling cancer in South Carolina should have an opportunity to benefit from a summer camp experience and other life-changing programs regardless of family income or economic status.

What cancer takes away, Camp Happy Days gives back – lots of smiles, laughter and the pure carefree joy of being a kid. It is their goal to create powerful, life-changing experiences that helps children fighting cancer live their dreams, realize their potential, to overcome adversity and discover a renewed sense of pride and self-confidence.

Camp Sertoma provides opportunities for fun, skills development, and education for 240 children each summer. Some sessions are for disadvantaged children while others are for the hearing or speech impaired. These children are placed in an entirely new and exciting setting where they can enjoy the company of others in group activities or play and work alone or in small groups. In addition to personal and housekeeping chores, the campers engage in such activities as nature hikes, archery, sailing, campfires, cookouts, fishing, boat rides, instructional swims, overnight camping trips, recreational games and skits, sports, singing, arts and crafts, and numerous other activities. The Sertoma Club  of Charleston is proud to sponsor four children to send to Camp Sertoma each Summer with help from events such as the annual Sertoma Classic. For more information visit here or contact Renee Ward rward@ci.burlington.nc.us.

The Ronald McDonald House of Charleston is a 27-bedroom home where families stay while their children undergo extensive medical treatment. Here, parents and children lead a life as normal as possible during their traumatic times without the financial burden of costly hotel and travel expenses. RMHCC also provides comfort and support to such families through the Ronald McDonald Family Room located in the Children’s Hospital at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Through both of these settings families are provided a forum to communicate and share experiences with other similarly situated families. The Ronald McDonald Family Room at MUSC provides a sanctuary within the walls of the hospital where family members can rest, read, shower or have a cup of coffee while still being only minutes away from their seriously ill child. RMHCC also supports related programs that improve the health and enhance the lives of children, and relies heavily on the generous support of volunteers and donations from Charleston and surrounding communities.
